Allergy and Sensitivities
Allergies are reactions when allergens enter the body through the skin, by inhalation or by ingestion. When an allergic person is exposed to an allergen, the immune system produces antibodies. It is the result of this production that causes allergic symptoms:  sneezing, runny nose, headaches, respiratory distress, nausea, hive and others.

Intolerances differ significantly from allergies. Unlike allergies, intolerances may vary from situation to situation, while an allergy always produces the same reaction.  Intolerances are caused by the body’s inability to process specific substances and may cause bloating, digestive problems such as gas and/or diarrhea, fatigue, headaches and even the inability to lose weight or weight gain.

Diabetes can be a silent killer if left undetected and is the leading cause of blindness and kidney failure.  It can also increase your chances of having a heart attack, stroke or infection.  Urine tests may be done in people with diabetes to evaluate severe hyperglycemia (severe high blood sugar) by looking for ketones in the urine.  Ketones are a metabolic product produced when fat is metabolized. Ketones increase when there is insufficient insulin to use glucose for energy.  Urine tests are also done to look for the presence of protein in the urine, which is a sign of kidney damage.

An unfortunate occurrence is that high school to college and even professional sports, athletes often use some form of banned substance to assist with competition they may face.  Competitive sports prohibit performance enhancing substance use.

Men’s and Women’s Health
Wellness testing is a critical component to feeling and looking good. Healthy living isn’t just about eating right, exercising and sleeping – although these are critical aspects to living well. Unless your body’s hormone, blood, cholesterol and other levels are healthy, you won’t see the results you desire in a workout. The steps needed to helping your body reach its greatest potential is a phone call away. A wellness-focused lifestyle is aware of what’s happening not only on the outside but also on the inside of the body.
